First Aid- Taught by the American Red Cross. Available at Merit Badge Fairs, Summer Camp or at the Red Cross in Houston. Learn the basics of First Aid, including treatment for shock, broken bones, and other life-saving techniques. Course takes about six hours.

CPR- Learn to save a life by learning Cario-Pulmonary Resuscitation.Course takes about three hours.

AED- Learn to operate the new technology of an Automatic Electronic Defibrillator. Used in conjunction with CPR.

When Help Is Delayed- First Aid takes on a new meaning when you are in the back country. Learn how to cope when help is far away.

Safety Afloat- Learn the basics of water safety in a boat, tube, or canoe. Required by at least one adult if the Troop is going boating, sailing, canoeing or tubing.

Safe Swim Defense- Learn to keep swimming safe. Required by at least one adult if the Troop is going swimming.

Merit Badge Counselors- are not required to take specific training (apart from Youth Protection Training), but may find the following links useful: A Guide to Merit Badge Counseling and Merit Badge Counselor Orientation. Merit Badge Couselors must register with BSA; the individual may register as a counselor only for no fee, or may become a fully register Scouter. Youth Protection- Child abuse recognition and prevention. Learn the concept of "Two-Deep Leadership". This is also included in the Basic Training.

Leave No Trace- Learn low-impact camping techniques.

Climb on Safely- Learn the basics of climbing safety. Required by at least one adult if the Troop is going rock climbing or rapelling.This is not a substitute for having a certified instructor.

Risk Management- Learn some of the principles behind the "Guide to Safe Scouting", including transportation, restrictions on Scouting activities and how to have fun while being safe.

Emergency Preparedness- A new program in conjunction with the Department of Homeland Security. This award is for Scouts and Scouters. Find more information here.
