General Information

Troop Meetings: Troop 80 meets at 7:30 PM on Tuesday evenings at the Bill Clarke Scout House. Meetings normally end at 9:00 PM or shortly thereafter. All Scouts must be picked up at the end of the meeting. Unless specified otherwise, Scouts are required to attend meetings in full "Class A" uniform. All Boy Scout meetings are open to the parents of the boys participating. It is beneficial to the Scouts and is recommended that at least one parent attend the meeting. The Tuesday meeting following a campout is reserved for boy leaders Patrol Leaders Council (PLC) meeting. Boards of Review may be scheduled on a meeting night if approved by the Advancement Chair.

Bill Clarke Scout House: The Scout House is located on Waldo at its intersection with Rowan, on the grounds of St. Francis de Sales Church. The land and utilities for the Scout House are provided by St. Francis, but the building was built, and was paid for, by the parents of the Scout groups that use the facility. Each year the Scout House Committee has fund raising events to raise money for the improvements and maintenance.

Saint Francis de Sales Church: Troop 80 is chartered through Saint Francis de Sales Catholic Church, which is located at 8200 Roos in the Sharpstown area. It is not necessary that a boy or his family be members of Saint Francis de Sales parish to participate in Troop 80. However a large number of our service projects revolve around supporting our chartered organization.

Golden Arrow District: Our Troop is part of the Golden Arrow District (GAD) of the Sam Houston Area Council (SHAC). We participate as a Troop as well as individually in District and Council events.

Boys in Leadership: "An adult should never do what a Scout can do for himself." This is a boy-led Troop. The boys plan, coordinate, and lead all the activities of Troop 80. Adult leaders advise the boys in leadership positions rather than provide leadership. In addition, the adults of the Troop provide the support requirements (especially transportation) which are beyond the boys' ability to provide. Active participation in leadership is one of the fundamental methods by which Scouting achieves its goals of developing boys into men.

Camping: Troop 80 is a camping Troop. This means we go camping at least one weekend a month (except July) regardless of the weather conditions. Normally, we have summer camp for one week in June and in July we organize a separate high adventure for boys 14 and older. The Troop supplies all common (Patrol) equipment while individuals are responsible for providing personal gear. It is important that Scouts have personal gear which allows them to "be prepared" for all weather conditions. Click here for a list of recommended personal gear.
