Troop 80 Discipline Policy

The Scoutmaster is responsible for the safety and welfare of the Scouts and adult Leaders while they are participating in meetings or other Scout functions. It is the Scoutmaster's duty to impose a reasonable level of discipline in order to ensure that Scouts may participate equally in the activities without interference, physical or emotional harassment, or unsafe conditions.

The Scoutmaster must use common sense and personal discretion in the enforcement of the rules of behavior. If a Scout threatens, injures, or otherwise interferes with another Scout's ability to participate in Troop activities, the Scoutmaster will restore order and see to it that the disruption does not continue. At the discretion of the Scoutmaster the parents of a Scout may be called to come to the location of the Troop and take the Scout home. The actions available to the Scoutmaster include, but are not limited to, the following:

1. Conference with the offending Scout, preferably with a parent in attendance.
2. Have the Scout leave or discontinue participation in the activity.
3. Suspend the Scout from all Troop and Patrol activities for a period of time determined by the Scoutmaster.
4. Suggest that the Scout perform a Service Project to demonstrate a rededication to Scout Spirit.
5. Expulsion of the Scout from the Troop.

In the case of a suspension, the Scout will not be allowed to return to Troop or Patrol activities until he, with his parent in attendance, has completed a Scoutmaster conference. He must satisfy the Scoutmaster that he has improved his attitude, demonstrates a willingness to cooperate, and exhibits Scout Spirit. Otherwise the reinstatement will be refused.

All Troop 80 registered Adult Leaders assist the Scoutmaster in maintaining order and insuring safety of the Troop's activities. When the Scoutmaster is unable to attend a Troop 80 event he will designate one of the registered trained Adult Leaders to act as Scoutmaster in his absence. The person designated will have the Scoutmaster's authority to maintain order and discipline.
