Registration Fees: Each Scout and Adult leader must pay a
non-refundable annual registration fee. This fee pays for the
Boy Scouts of America registration, a subscription to Boys
Life magazine, a unique Troop 80 neckerchief, a plastic ground
cloth for camping, troop operating expenses, and equipment maintenance.
Replacement neckerchief fee is $10. The registration fees are
pro-rated based on the month joined. New Scouts and adult leaders
must pay registration fees to the Membership Chair when they turn
in their completed application paperwork
Although the Troop Committee strives to keep Scouting affordable,
it may be necessary to increase fees or require extra collections
if a financial shortfall occurs.
The annual registration drive begins in September. Renewing
Scouts will have until the second scheduled Troop meeting in October
to pay their fees. If they have not paid by that meeting they
will be assessed a $ 10.00 late fee each additional meeting the
fees remain unpaid. In addition Scouts who have not paid will
be excluded from participating in campouts and other Troop activities.
In the case of financial hardship a parent or guardian should
contact the Troop Membership Chair or Troop Committee Chair to
make arrangements financial assistance may be available in cases
where a boy would not be able to participate in Scouting.
Monthly Dues: The monthly dues currently are $2.00.
This is money that is used to fund events, awards, and other operating
expense of Troop 80. This is an expense each individual Scout
should pay from his allowance or money he has earned. Dues are
to be paid monthly at the first Troop meeting of the month. The
Scribe will collect the patrol dues. The Troop Committee
Treasurer is the Scribe's advisor. The Troop Scribe will keep
the records of payment and turn in the money to the Treasurer.
Eagle Scouts are exempt from paying monthly dues.
Camping Costs: Each Scout pays to cover the cost of camping
trips. Because the money collected for camping expenses gets redistributed
in several directions, Scouts are to bring their money in $1.00
bills in labeled envelopes. It is very difficult to make change
for large bills. Checks are not acceptable for this purpose.
1. Food: Each patrol will plan a menu, develop a shopping
list, and collect money to purchase the food. This is normally
between $8.00 & $10.00 for a weekend.
2. Transportation: This is money collected by the Transportation
Coordinator and is given to the adults driving to help defray
the cost of operating their vehicle. The amount depends on the
length of the trip but is usually $5.00 to $10.00 per Scout. All
Scouts pay the fee, even if they are riding with their parent.
Adult drivers pay no fee, but adults who are riders pay the same
amount as the Scouts.
3. Special Event/Activity Costs: This is money that is
collected to pay for any admission fees, entry fees, or other
costs that will depend upon the nature of the special event. Once
the troop has paid for an activity, there is no refund.
Long Term Camping: Summer Camp is normally a seven (7)
day camp. Fees for 2002 were $ 140.00. Fees may vary from year
to year. Fees for some classes are additional (leatherwork, basketry,
etc.). Payments for summer camp can be made in installments as
directed by the Troop treasurer. Winter Camp is normally a five
(5) day camp and usually costs around $50.00. High Adventure
trips are individually costed. The leader of the High Adventure
trip will establish payment deadlines.
Spending Money: Going to and coming from a weekend campout
the Troop will normally stop for drinks and/or snacks. A small
amount of money (less than $10.00) should be sufficient for a
normal weekend campout. Long term camping can involve some out
of pocket expenses. The amount of money to bring and the anticipated
expenses will be discussed as part of preparation for camp. Please
ensure that spending money is brought in small denominations.
