Troop 80 Committee Meeting
June 14, 2004
Attendees :
Sherman Wooten, Kyle Shannon, Tom Loesch, Pat Barrett, Eric Johnson, Chris Stephenson, Luis Velasquez, Mark Sulzbach, Felix Olivier, Charlie Lillja, Sherry Hu.
Venture Crew Liaison : Mr. Tom Loesch
A) Proposed to put the crew (age 14 to 21) and scout back together under the same one entity:
Purpose:
1) Avoid losing them.
2) Advancement.
3) Teaching young scouts by the older ones.
4) Boys will have something to look forward after Eagle Scout - an incentive to stay.
Issues:
1) Committee chair/members will to do more work. Are they willing to do it?
2) Male/female crew.
3) Younger boys do not like girls; we do not want to chase away younger boys.
Resolution :
1) Mr. Sherman Wooten will send out emails to everyone to meet, discuss, resolve and vote in July. Tom needs answer by August, 2004.
2) Need to look beyond now.
3) Set up rules, e.g. no girls allowed in boys' tent and vice versa, etc...
4) Mr. Tom Loesch promised to stay on - to assist and establish rules that will work out.
B) Certified Rifle and Shotgun class - August 23 rd & 25 th , make up 30 th . (Fee: $50-$75).
Scoutmaster: Mr. Kyle Shannon
Mr. Charlie Lillja needs to refill propane tanks. Need to have items needed checklist for summer camp.
Adult fee - will raise membership fee by $25 per year in September dues, to include other/miscellaneous expenses. Pat seconded.
Mr. Mark Sulzbach will write job descriptions of adults and troops for committee members.
There are 4 Patrols and 2 Scout Leaders (Nathaniel Wooten and Tony Shannon) are going to Rancho Cima summer camp.
Transportation Coordinator : Mr. Chris Stevenson
We have enough seat belts for Scouts summer camp.
Philmont Trip Fund raising - Father Limanni approved Car Wash Fund Raising on July 3 rd in front of the church (Parking Lot).
Wood Badge Ticket Item : Mr. Luis Velasquez
Developed and set up the following at the Scout House:
Resource Library for the troop.
Bicycling Program.
Resource Center for adults - e.g. Parks and maps, forms, etc...
Computer and printer donated by ConocoPhilips.
Made a "Cadence" Troop 80 Book of Songs, Prayers and Skits - will be given out to each patrol.
Webmaster: Mr. Eric Johnson
We have a license on Troop Master Software - to view merit badges of our individual scouts where they stand and what they need to work on. Cost of software is $25.00, $70.00 to upload and link - Security issues on personal records. Resolution: Upload boys merit badges once a month in the computer where they can view their awards. Pat seconded.
New Business:
Mr. Charlie Lillja - Farewell party for Japanese Contingent on July 25 th at the Boys Scout Council Center.
Mr. Sherman Wooten made a motion to adjourn the meeting at 9:35 p.m. Eric seconded.
